Things That Naturopath Do

First Do No Harm (Primum No Nocere)

Part of the Hippocratic Oath is to do no harm. Naturopaths do not use harmful substances, such as drugs and pharmaceuticals, and do not resort in dangerous procedures, such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Ascertain the Cause (Tolle Causam)

“Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that results from the violation of the laws of health. In case of sickness, the cause must be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and re-establish right conditions within the system. (Ministry of Healing, p. 127) E.G. White.

Naturopath to Teach Health (Docere)

Naturopath does not heal disease. The term “doctor” means teacher from the Latin word “docer.” This means that one of the important functions of the doctor is to teach the patients the best ways of avoiding disease. Patients have to be enlightened as to the nature and causes of their maladies, help them achieve a state of balance (homeostasis) and remain healthy unto the future.

Restorative Power is Only in Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)

“Nature alone possesses restorative powers. She alone can build up her exhausted energies, and repair the injuries she has received by inattention to her fixed laws.” Healthful Living, p. 224.

Naturopathy means “nature path.” It is considered as the mother of medicine. It uses the power of “mother nature” as a curative agent. Nature is God’s physician.

The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition. -- Thomas A. Edison
